Taras Shevchenko and Sumy Region Exhibition

On the occasion of Taras Shevchenko’s 200th birthday anniversary, on the 6th March 2014, the exhibition “T. Shevchenko and Sumy region” was opened. The exhibition tells about Shevchenko’s stay in Sumy Region, poet’s friends and acquaintances, biographically related to our land and illustrates poet’s artistic and literary works, written in Sumy region.

There are original photos and postcards, rare copies of printed books and household items of mid-nineteenth century at the heart of the exhibition. The highlight of the exhibition is Krolevets’ embroidered towel of 1847, the manuscripts of the poems and drawings of poet and artist, P. M. Sokolov, T. G. Shevchenko’s friend, who was born in Slavgorod (today Krasnopil’skyi district) and also palette and camera of the artist, the first director of the Sumy Art and Historical Museum, and the expert of Shevchenko’s works, N. Kh. Onatskyi.

The documents from the State Archives of Sumy region and things from private collections became a meaningful complement to the exhibition.

The exhibition is opened daily from 9-00 to 17-00 except for Monday. The address is Sumy, 2HerasymKondratiev Street.
